1989 Donruss Pop-Up

Hello all! The Pack Rip Cafe returns and I am stoked to be back ripping loose packs for you all to enjoy. I have a whole bunch of different packs set aside, both old and new, so it will be a fun ride through different eras in collecting as the Cafe moves forward.

Today we go back 23 years to 1989 with a pack of Donruss Pop-Up. These packs featured a pop up card along with 5 all star player cards and a Warren Spahn 3 puzzle piece card for a total of 7 cards in all.

1989 Donruss Pop-Up
The feel of the wax on the wrapper brings back such memories of my youth.

#8 Frank John Viola Jr. (Twins)
#12 Doyle Lafayette Alexander (Tigers)
#45 Andres Jose Galarraga (Expos)
A good start, none for me though so ask and ye shall receive. I love the addition of the middle name on the backs.

#41 Gary Edmund Carter (Mets)
#37 Osborne Earl (Ozzie) Smith (Cardinals)
Two big time stars and both keepers for me, yea!

Warren Spahn Puzzle Piece's #'s 40, 41, 42
Pop-Up Andre Dawson NL (Cubs)
It's great to get the featured card of the pack as a keeper.

A few of the backs.

  1. Huge fan of 80's oddballs like this. You were guaranteed a single, regardless of who you pulled in my book.
